Ingredients

  • 1 cup Fresh grated coconut
  • 0.25 cup Roasted gram (Pottukadalai)
  • 3 pieces Green chilies
  • 0.5 inch Ginger
  • 1 piece Garlic clove(optional)
  • 0.75 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Coconut oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon Urad dal
  • 8 leaves Curry leaves
  • 1 piece Dried red chili
  • 0.5 cup Water

Instructions

  1. 1

Place the fresh grated coconut, roasted gram, green chilies, ginger, and garlic into a blender jar.

  2. 2

Add salt and about 1/4 cup of water to start the blending process.

  3. 3

Grind to a smooth paste, adding the remaining water gradually until you reach a thick, pourable consistency.

  4. 4

Transfer the blended chutney into a serving bowl.

  5. 5

Heat coconut oil in a small tempering pan (tadka pan) over medium heat.

  6. 6

Add mustard seeds and let them splutter, then add the urad dal and fry until golden brown.

  7. 7

Add the dried red chili and curry leaves, letting them crisp up for a few seconds.

  8. 8

Pour this hot tempering over the chutney and mix gently before serving with idli or dosa.
