Ingredients

  • 180 g Spaghetti (or linguine)
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 1/2 tsp Red pepper flakes
  • 1 can (400) Crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/8 tsp Black pepper(optional)
  • 2 tbsp Fresh basil (optional)(optional)
  • 2 tbsp Parmesan (optional)(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti until al dente, about 10–12 minutes, then reserve about 1/2 cup pasta water and drain.

  2. 2

While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and red pepper flakes and cook until fragrant, about 1–2 minutes (do not brown).

  3. 3

Add crushed tomatoes and salt to the skillet. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened, about 6–8 minutes.

  4. 4

Add drained pasta to the sauce and toss to coat. If needed, loosen with a splash of reserved pasta water. Finish with black pepper, and top with basil and/or parmesan if using.
