Ingredients

  • 300 g silken tofu
  • 2 tablespoons doubanjiang (fermented broad bean paste)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 stalks scallions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup water or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground Sichuan peppercorns(optional)
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat the oil in a wok or skillet over medium heat (about 1 minute).

  2. 2

Add the minced garlic and stir‑fry for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  3. 3

Stir in the doubanjiang and optional Sichuan peppercorns, cooking 1 minute to release the aromas.

  4. 4

Pour in the water or broth and bring to a gentle simmer (about 1 minute).

  5. 5

Gently add the silken tofu, breaking it into large cubes, and simmer for 8‑10 minutes, stirring carefully to coat the tofu without breaking it.

  6. 6

Season with soy sauce if using, then sprinkle the sliced scallions over the top and serve immediately.
