Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Stale baguette or French bread loaf
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 0.5 can Sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 units Large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Orange zest
  • 0.25 cup Fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Neutral oil for frying

Instructions

  1. 1

Slice the bread into thick rounds, approximately 1-inch thick, and set aside.

  2. 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the whole milk, sweetened condensed milk, orange juice, and orange zest.

  3. 3

In a separate shallow bowl, lightly beat the eggs with the vanilla extract.

  4. 4

Quickly dip each bread slice into the milk mixture, allowing it to soak but not fall apart, then dip into the beaten eggs.

  5. 5

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat and fry the bread slices until golden brown on both sides.

  6. 6

In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar with the ground cinnamon and ground cloves.

  7. 7

Remove the rabanadas from the oil and drain briefly on paper towels.

  8. 8

While still warm, dredge each slice in the spiced sugar mixture until fully coated.
