Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb Beef short ribs (bone‑in)
  • 3 tbsp Low‑sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Erythritol (or other low‑carb sweetener)
  • 1 tbsp Rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp Fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 tsp Garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp Chinese five‑spice powder
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1/4 cup Water

Instructions

  1. 1

In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, erythritol, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, five‑spice powder, and water to form the Char Siu glaze.

  2. 2

Pat the short ribs dry, then coat them thoroughly with the glaze; let them marinate at room temperature for 10 minutes while you preheat a heavy skillet over medium‑high heat.

  3. 3

Add olive oil to the hot skillet, sear the short ribs for 2‑3 minutes per side until a deep caramelized crust forms, then reduce heat to medium and continue cooking, turning occasionally, for another 12‑15 minutes until the meat is tender and the glaze has thickened.

  4. 4

Transfer the ribs to a cutting board, let rest 2 minutes, then slice between the bones and serve.
