Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm water (110°F)
  • 2.25 tsp Active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp Granulated sugar
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1.5 tsp Fine sea salt
  • 0.25 cup Whole wheat flour(optional)
  • 1 tbsp Cornmeal (for dusting)(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

Stir in 1 cup of flour and the olive oil, then gradually add the remaining flour and salt until a shaggy dough forms.

  3. 3

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal pieces, rolling each into a smooth ball.

  6. 6

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) with a baking stone or heavy baking sheet inside.

  7. 7

Roll each ball into a 6-inch circle about 1/4 inch thick and let rest for 10 minutes.

  8. 8

Place dough circles directly onto the hot stone and bake for 2-3 minutes until puffed and slightly browned.
