Ingredients

  • 180 g Pasta (penne or spaghetti)
  • 1 can (400) Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 120 ml Heavy cream (or whole milk)
  • 10 g Fresh basil
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp Salt(optional)
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper(optional)
  • 25 g Parmesan (optional)(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta until al dente, then reserve 1/2 cup (120 ml) of pasta water and drain.

  2. 2

While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté minced garlic for 30–60 seconds until fragrant.

  3. 3

Add crushed tomatoes to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.

  4. 4

Stir in the cream (or milk) and simmer 2–3 minutes. If the sauce is too thick, loosen with a splash of reserved pasta water.

  5. 5

Add the drained pasta to the skillet and toss to coat. Turn off the heat and fold in chopped basil (and parmesan if using). Serve immediately.
