Ingredients

  • 200 g Pork shoulder (trimmed)
  • 2 tablespoons Char siu sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Honey
  • 120 g All-purpose flour
  • 60 ml Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
  • 1 cup Water (for steaming)

Instructions

  1. 1

    1. In a bowl, combine pork shoulder with char siu sauce, soy sauce, and honey; marinate for 5 minutes.

  2. 2

    2. While the pork marinates, whisk together flour, baking powder, milk, and vegetable oil to form a soft dough; let rest 5 minutes.

  3. 3

    3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the marinated pork for 3‑4 minutes per side until caramelized.

  4. 4

    4. Transfer the seared pork to a plate and let cool slightly, then slice into thin strips.

  5. 5

    5. Divide the dough into two equal portions, roll each into a circle (≈8 cm diameter), place pork strips in the center, and pinch the edges to seal the bun.

  6. 6

    6. Place the filled buns on parchment paper in a steamer basket, steam over boiling water for 12‑15 minutes until the buns are puffed and cooked through.

  7. 7

    7. Remove buns from steamer, let cool 2 minutes, then serve warm.
