Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Pork butt or shoulder, cut into long strips
  • 0.25 cup Honey
  • 0.33 cup Hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing rice wine
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 2 cloves Minced garlic
  • 1 cube Red fermented bean curd (optional for color)(optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Toasted sesame oil

Instructions

    Whisk together the honey, hoisin, soy sauce, rice wine, brown sugar, five-spice, garlic, and sesame oil in a large bowl.

    Reserve 3 tablespoons of the marinade to use later as a basting glaze.

    Place the pork strips in a sealable bag with the remaining marinade and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

    Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with foil, placing a wire rack on top.

    Arrange the pork on the wire rack and roast for 20 minutes.

    Flip the pork and brush generously with the reserved marinade glaze.

    Roast for another 20-25 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 145°F and the edges are slightly charred.
