Ingredients
- 1 lb Sirloin or Flank Steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 cup Kuli-Kuli or Roasted Peanut Powder
- 1 tablespoon Ginger Powder
- 1 tablespoon Garlic Powder
- 2 teaspoons Cayenne Pepper or Ground Chili
- 1 teaspoon Paprika
- 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 2 cubes Bouillon Cubes (crushed)
- 0.25 cup Vegetable Oil
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
- 1 medium Red Onion (sliced for garnish)(optional)
Instructions
- 1
Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning.
- 2
In a medium bowl, combine the peanut powder, ginger, garlic, cayenne, paprika, onion powder, salt, and crushed bouillon cubes to create the Yaji (Suya spice).
- 3
Slice the beef into very thin, wide strips, approximately 1 inch wide and 3-4 inches long.
- 4
Thread the beef strips onto the skewers in a flat, accordion-like fashion.
- 5
Generously coat each beef skewer with the Yaji spice blend, pressing it firmly into the meat so it adheres.
- 6
Brush the coated skewers lightly with vegetable oil to help the spice crust develop and prevent sticking.
- 7
Preheat a grill or oven broiler to medium-high heat and cook the skewers for 3-5 minutes per side until charred and cooked through.
- 8
Serve hot with extra Yaji spice, sliced raw onions, and tomatoes on the side.
