Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Jasmine rice (dry)
  • 12 oz Green beans (or yardlong beans), trimmed
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup Thai basil (or regular basil), chopped
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Brown sugar (or palm sugar)
  • 1 tsp Rice vinegar (or lime juice)
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp Neutral oil (for stir-frying)
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1/4 tsp Red pepper flakes (optional)(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Cook the jasmine rice according to package directions (about 15 minutes).

  2. 2

While the rice cooks, stir-fry the beans: heat a wok or skillet over medium-high heat with the neutral oil. Add the beans and stir-fry for 8–10 minutes until crisp-tender.

  3. 3

Add the garlic and cook for 30–60 seconds until fragrant.

  4. 4

Stir together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and water. Pour into the pan and toss to coat the beans, simmering 3–5 minutes until glossy and slightly reduced.

  5. 5

Turn off the heat and toss in the chopped basil (and red pepper flakes if using) just until wilted. Serve the beans over the jasmine rice.
