Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 medium onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin(optional)
  • 12 oz shrimp (peeled, deveined)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp salt(optional)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper(optional)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley (optional)(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Prep (10 minutes): Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic. Measure the tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, smoked paprika, and lemon juice. Pat shrimp dry and season lightly with salt and pepper.

  2. 2

Cook the reca base (about 8 minutes): Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté onion until softened, then add garlic and cook 30–60 seconds. Stir in tomato paste and cook 1 minute, then add crushed tomatoes, smoked paprika, and cumin (if using). Simmer until slightly thickened, about 6–8 minutes.

  3. 3

Finish with shrimp (about 10 minutes total cook time): Add shrimp to the simmering sauce and cook until pink and just cooked through, about 2–4 minutes per side (depending on size). Turn off heat, stir in lemon juice, and taste for salt/pepper. If using parsley, sprinkle on top and serve immediately.
