Ingredients

  • 1 can (5 oz / 140 g) canned tuna (in water), drained
  • 1/2 cup (120 g) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup (about 40 g), finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves, minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp salt(optional)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper(optional)
  • 4 slices toasted bread slices
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. 1

Prep (10 minutes): Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic. Drain the tuna.

  2. 2

Cook (15 minutes): In a small pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onion for 3–4 minutes until softened, then stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds.

  3. 3

Add tomato sauce, smoked paprika, and cumin. Simmer 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

  4. 4

Stir in the drained tuna and cook 1–2 minutes until warmed through. Taste and adjust with salt and pepper if needed.

  5. 5

Assemble and broil: Spoon the tuna-reca mixture onto the toast slices, top with cheddar, and broil 2–3 minutes until bubbly and golden.
