Ingredients

  • 12 oz Ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1/4 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tbsp Ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Tomato sauce (or crushed tomatoes)
  • 1 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Fresh basil, chopped (or 1 tsp dried)
  • 1 tsp Olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp Salt(optional)
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Prep (15 minutes): In a bowl, mix ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, 1/2 of the grated ginger, 1/2 tbsp soy sauce, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Form into 10–12 small meatballs.

  2. 2

Cook (20 minutes): Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown meatballs on 2–3 sides, about 6–8 minutes total.

  3. 3

Simmer: Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, remaining ginger, remaining soy sauce, and basil. Bring to a gentle simmer, then cook until meatballs are cooked through and sauce thickens, about 12–14 minutes.

  4. 4

Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning (more pepper or a little salt if needed). Serve hot with extra basil.
