Ingredients

  • 14 oz extra-firm tofu
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp neutral oil (for pan-frying)
  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • 1 medium cucumber
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Prep (15 minutes total): Press tofu for 5 minutes, then pat very dry and cut into 1/2-inch cubes. Toss tofu with cornstarch until evenly coated.

  2. 2

Cook (15 minutes total): Heat neutral oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Pan-crisp tofu in a single layer, cooking 6–8 minutes total, turning occasionally, until deeply golden and crisp.

  3. 3

Make glaze (during tofu cooking): In a small bowl, whisk soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and honey/maple syrup. When tofu is crisp, pour glaze into the skillet and toss quickly to coat for 1–2 minutes until glossy and lightly sticky.

  4. 4

Serve: Divide rice into 2 bowls. Top with glazed tofu and add sliced cucumber. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.
