  • 1 medium Yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups Chicken or vegetable broth
  • 0.5 cup Fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 0.75 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Granulated sugar(optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red pepper flakes(optional)

Instructions

    Melt the butter in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.

    Add the diced onion and cook for 5-7 minutes until translucent and soft.

    Stir in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.

    Add the crushed tomatoes, broth, sugar, salt, and pepper; bring to a gentle simmer.
