Ingredients
- 3 medium Apples (firm, such as Granny Smith or Braeburn)
- 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
- 1/2 sheet (about 5 oz) Puff pastry sheet
- 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract(optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon Ground cinnamon(optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
Instructions
- 1
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel, core, and quarter the apples.
- 2
In a 9-inch oven-safe skillet (cast iron works well), melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the sugar, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla if using, and cook for 3-4 minutes until the sugar begins to dissolve and turn golden.
- 3
Arrange the apple quarters in the skillet in a tight circular pattern over the caramel. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, spooning the caramel over the apples occasionally.
- 4
Remove from heat. Roll the puff pastry slightly and drape it over the apples, tucking the edges down inside the skillet around the fruit.
- 5
Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and deep golden brown.
- 6
Let the tart rest for 5-10 minutes, then carefully invert it onto a serving plate while still warm. Serve with cream or ice cream if desired.
