Ingredients

  • 8 oz oz Elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups cups Sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup cup Whole milk
  • 2 tbsp tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp tsp Black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp tsp Garlic powder(optional)
  • 1/4 tsp tsp Paprika(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Bring a large skillet of salted water to a boil and cook the macaroni until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain, reserving 1/4 cup pasta water.

  2. 2

In the same skillet over medium heat, melt the butter, whisk in the flour, and cook 1 minute until bubbly.

  3. 3

Slowly whisk in the milk and simmer 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.

  4. 4

Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar a handful at a time until smooth, adding reserved pasta water if needed to loosen the sauce.

  5. 5

Fold in the pasta, season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika, and serve immediately.
