Ingredients
- 1 cup Red lentils (Masoor Dal)
- 3 cups Water
- 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil or Ghee
- 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 3 cloves Garlic
- 1 small Onion
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 0.25 cup Fresh cilantro(optional)
Instructions

Rinse the red lentils thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear.

In a large pot, combine lentils, water, and turmeric. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes until lentils are soft and broken down.

While lentils cook, heat oil or ghee in a small skillet over medium heat.

Add cumin seeds to the skillet. Once they sizzle, add finely chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until golden brown.

Stir the sautéed aromatics (the 'tadka') into the cooked lentils.

Add salt to taste and simmer for another 2 minutes to meld flavors.

Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
