Ingredients

  • 10 oz Ground beef (80% lean)
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 Burger buns
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese
  • 8 oz Mushrooms (sliced)
  • 0.5 cup Onion (small, diced)(optional)
  • 1 clove Garlic (minced)(optional)
  • 1.5 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil(optional)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce(optional)
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Prep (10 minutes): Form the ground beef into 2 patties. Season both sides with salt and black pepper. Slice mushrooms; dice onion and mince garlic if using.

  2. 2

Cook burgers (about 10 minutes of the total 18): Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil if using, then sear patties 4–5 minutes per side until cooked to your preferred doneness.

  3. 3

Sauté mushrooms (about 8 minutes of the total 18): Transfer patties to a plate. In the same skillet, add butter and sauté mushrooms (and onion if using) until browned and their liquid cooks off, about 6–8 minutes. Stir in garlic (if using) for 30 seconds, then add Worcestershire sauce (and Dijon if using).

  4. 4

Finish: Top each patty with a slice of Swiss and cover the skillet for 1 minute to melt the cheese. Toast buns briefly if desired, then assemble burgers with the sautéed mushrooms.
