Ingredients

  • 150 g Glutinous (sticky) rice flour
  • 120 ml Water (boiling)
  • 1 tbsp Granulated sugar(optional)
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 60 g Palm sugar (gula jawa), finely chopped
  • 60 g Grated unsweetened coconut
  • 1 tsp Neutral oil (for greasing hands/pan)(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Prep (about 20 minutes total): In a bowl, mix glutinous rice flour, salt, and (if using) granulated sugar. Pour in boiling water gradually while stirring until a soft, pliable dough forms. Let it cool until comfortable to handle, then lightly oil your hands and knead briefly to smooth.

  2. 2

Form and fill (about 10 minutes total cook time included): Divide dough into small portions (about 8–10). Flatten each piece, add a small amount of palm sugar in the center, then seal and roll into balls.

  3. 3

Cook (about 10 minutes): Bring a pot of water to a gentle boil. Drop the rice balls in batches and cook until they float and look slightly puffed, about 5–7 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain well.

  4. 4

Serve: While warm, roll each ball in grated coconut. Serve immediately.
