Ingredients

  • 4 pounds Pork shoulder (Boston butt)
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.5 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 0.5 cup Chicken broth
  • 1.5 cups BBQ sauce
  • 8 units Brioche buns
  • 2 cups Coleslaw(optional)
  • to taste N/A Salt and black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to create a dry rub.

  2. 2

Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, pressing it into the meat to ensure it adheres.

  3. 3

Place the seasoned pork into the slow cooker and pour the chicken broth and apple cider vinegar around the base.

  4. 4

Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours (or high for 5 to 6 hours) until the meat is tender enough to fall apart with a fork.

  5. 5

Remove the pork from the slow cooker and transfer to a large cutting board; discard the excess liquid from the pot.

  6. 6

Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces, removing any large pieces of fat.

  7. 7

Return the shredded meat to the slow cooker and stir in the BBQ sauce until evenly coated.

  8. 8

Toast the brioche buns and pile the pulled pork high, topping with coleslaw if desired before serving.
