Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 0.75 cup granulated sugar
- 0.5 cup unsulphured molasses
- 2 pieces large eggs
- 0.5 cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 0.25 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan thoroughly.
- 2
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- 3
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the sour cream and vanilla extract.
- 4
Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually add to the wet ingredients until just combined.
- 5
Divide the batter into two separate bowls. In one bowl, fold in the molasses and boiling water to create the dark velvet layer.
- 6
In the second bowl, fold in the ground cinnamon to create the spiced velvet layer.
- 7
Spoon the batters into the loaf pan, alternating scoops of molasses and cinnamon mixtures, then lightly swirl with a knife.
- 8
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
