Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground Beef or Lamb
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion, finely grated
  • 0.5 cup Fresh Parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Baharat or Seven Spice blend
  • 0.5 cup Tahini paste
  • 0.25 cup Lemon juice
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 0.75 cup Warm water
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Pine nuts, toasted(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, combine the meat, grated onion, parsley, spice blend, and half the salt; mix by hand until well incorporated.

  3. 3

Shape the mixture into small oval-shaped balls (koftas) and place them in the baking dish.

  4. 4

Bake the koftas for 15 minutes until they are browned on the outside and partially cooked through.

  5. 5

While the meat bakes, whisk together the tahini, lemon juice, minced garlic, remaining salt, and warm water until the sauce is smooth and creamy.

  6. 6

Remove the baking dish from the oven and pour the tahini sauce evenly over the koftas.

  7. 7

Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes until the sauce thickens and bubbles.

  8. 8

Garnish with toasted pine nuts and extra parsley before serving hot with pita bread or rice.
