- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1.5 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 6 cloves roasted garlic cloves, mashed
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese(optional)

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, salt, and smoked paprika.

In a separate small bowl, combine the milk, beaten egg, melted butter, and the mashed roasted garlic.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; do not overmix.
