- 1 large Yellow onion, sliced
- 4 cloves Garlic, minced
- 0.25 cup Brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Chili powder
- 1.5 cups Barbecue sauce
Instructions
- 1
Place the sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom of the slow cooker.
- 2
In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and chili powder to create a dry rub.
- 3
Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, coating all sides thoroughly.
- 4
Place the seasoned pork on top of the onions in the slow cooker.
- 5
Pour the Dr Pepper around the sides of the pork, being careful not to wash off the dry rub.
- 6
Cover and cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours (or High for 5 to 6 hours) until the meat is fork-tender.
- 7
Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks, discarding any large pieces of fat.
- 8
Drain the excess liquid from the pot, return the shredded meat, and stir in the barbecue sauce before serving.
