Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds Pork spareribs, trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, freshly grated
  • 1 teaspoon Korean chili powder (gochugaru)
  • 1 cup Tomato puree (no added sugar)
  • 1/4 cup Fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1 cup Beef or chicken broth, low sodium
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce (gluten‑free if needed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

    1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Pat the spareribs dry, then rub them with olive oil, salt, black pepper, minced garlic, grated ginger, and Korean chili powder; let them rest for 10 minutes.

  2. 2

    2. In a large oven‑safe pot or Dutch oven, combine tomato puree, broth, soy sauce, and chopped basil. Stir to blend, then add the seasoned ribs, submerging them partially in the sauce.

  3. 3

    3. Cover the pot tightly with a lid or foil and braise in the preheated oven for 2 hours and 35 minutes, turning the ribs once halfway through to ensure even coating.

  4. 4

    4. Remove the pot, uncover, and increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C). Roast the ribs uncovered for an additional 10‑15 minutes to develop a caramelized glaze.

  5. 5

    5. Transfer the ribs to a serving platter, spoon the thickened tomato‑basil sauce over them, and garnish with a few fresh basil leaves before serving.
