Ingredients

  • 14 oz (400 g) g extra-firm tofu
  • 3 tbsp tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 tbsp tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 cloves cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup cup water
  • 2 scallions, sliced
  • 1 tsp tsp toasted sesame seeds(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Press the tofu between paper towels with a light weight for 5 minutes, then cut into 1/2-inch thick slices. (Prep: 10 minutes total including slicing and mixing sauce.)

  2. 2

Whisk together soy sauce, gochugaru, brown sugar, garlic, sesame oil, and water in a small bowl to make the braising sauce.

  3. 3

Heat vegetable oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat and pan-fry tofu slices 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crisp.

  4. 4

Reduce heat to medium-low, pour the sauce over the tofu, and simmer 5-7 minutes, spooning the glaze over the slices until it thickens and coats the tofu.

  5. 5

Transfer to a plate, spoon remaining glaze on top, and garnish with scallions and sesame seeds. Serve with steamed rice.
