Ingredients

  • 20 pieces Store-bought gyoza/dumplings (frozen or refrigerated)
  • 1 tbsp Neutral oil (canola/vegetable)
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce(optional)
  • 1 tsp Rice vinegar (or black vinegar)(optional)
  • 1/2 tsp Sesame oil(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Prep (5 minutes): If frozen, thaw dumplings briefly at room temperature (or follow package directions). Mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil for a quick dipping sauce (optional).

  2. 2

Cook (12 minutes): Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat and add neutral oil. Arrange dumplings in a single layer, flat side down, and cook until the bottoms are golden, about 3–4 minutes.

  3. 3

Add water: Carefully pour in water (it will sizzle). Cover immediately and steam until the water mostly evaporates, about 4–5 minutes.

  4. 4

Finish crisping: Uncover and cook uncovered until the bottoms are crisp again and any remaining moisture is gone, about 3–4 minutes. Serve hot with dipping sauce (optional).
