Ingredients

  • 12 oz ribeye or sirloin beef, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup Asian pear or apple, grated
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups cooked white rice, for serving
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Slice the beef as thinly as possible against the grain (freeze for 15 minutes first for easier slicing).

  2. 2

In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, grated pear, black pepper, and gochugaru if using. Add the beef and green onions, toss to coat, and marinate for 15 minutes.

  3. 3

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat until shimmering.

  4. 4

Add the beef in a single layer, working in batches if needed, and sear for 2-3 minutes per side until caramelized and cooked through.

  5. 5

Transfer to a plate, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds, and serve immediately over steamed rice.
