Ingredients

Servings:4
  • 3/4 cup Warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1 teaspoon Granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup Plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Za'atar spice blend
  • 2 tablespoons Melted butter or additional olive oil for brushing
  • 1 clove Minced garlic(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt, then create a well in the center.

  3. 3

Pour the yeast mixture, yogurt, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil into the well, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.

  4. 4

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 3-5 minutes until smooth and elastic, then let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.

  5. 5

Divide the risen dough into 6 equal pieces and roll each into an oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.

  6. 6

Heat a heavy cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and lightly grease with a drop of oil.

  7. 7

Cook each naan for 1-2 minutes until large bubbles form on top and the bottom is charred, then flip and cook for another minute.

  8. 8

Immediately brush the hot naan with melted butter or oil and sprinkle generously with the za'atar spice blend.
