Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cups Cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3 tablespoons Ice water
  • 3 large Granny Smith apples, sliced
  • 0.25 cups Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 large Egg (for wash)(optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Apricot jam (for glaze)(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a bowl, cut cold butter into flour using a pastry cutter or fork until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add ice water one tablespoon at a time until dough forms.

  3. 3

Roll the dough into a 12-inch circle on a floured surface and transfer to the baking sheet.

  4. 4

In a separate bowl, toss apple slices with brown sugar and cinnamon.

  5. 5

Arrange apples in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border.

  6. 6

Fold the edges of the dough over the apples, pleating as you go to create a rustic border.

  7. 7

Brush the crust with beaten egg and bake for 30-35 minutes until the crust is golden brown.

  8. 8

Optional: Brush warm apricot jam over the apples immediately after removing from the oven for a glossy finish.
