Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Warm water
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 quart Vegetable oil for deep frying
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla bean paste
  • 0.25 teaspoon Nutmeg(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, salt, and nutmeg until well combined.

  2. 2

Gradually pour in the warm water and mix by hand or with a wooden spoon until a smooth, thick batter forms.

  3. 3

Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 45 to 60 minutes until doubled in size.

  4. 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pot over medium heat until it reaches approximately 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  5. 5

Deflate the batter and use your hand or a small scoop to drop small rounds of dough into the hot oil.

  6. 6

Fry the puff puffs, turning frequently, until they are golden brown on all sides, then drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

In a small bowl, whisk the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla bean paste together to create a smooth glaze.

  8. 8

Drizzle the warm puff puffs with the vanilla glaze or toss them in the bowl to coat thoroughly before serving.
