Ingredients

Servings:6
  • 1 kg Ground beef
  • 2 slices White bread
  • 1 1/2 cups Milk
  • 2 medium Onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Curry powder
  • 3 tablespoons Fruit chutney
  • 1/2 cup Sultanas or raisins
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 4 leaves Bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a medium-sized baking dish.

  2. 2

Soak the bread slices in 0.5 cups of milk, then mash with a fork until smooth.

  3. 3

Sauté the onions and garlic in a large pan until soft, then stir in the curry powder and turmeric.

  4. 4

Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until browned, breaking up any lumps.

  5. 5

Stir in the soaked bread, chutney, raisins, and lemon juice; season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. 6

Transfer the meat mixture into the baking dish and press down firmly to create an even layer.

  7. 7

Whisk the remaining 1 cup of milk with the eggs and pour the mixture over the meat.

  8. 8

Place the bay leaves on top and bake for 30 to 40 minutes until the custard topping is set and golden brown.
