  • 14 oz Extra-firm tofu
  • 0.25 cup Cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 4 pieces Dried red chilies(optional)
  • 2 stalks Green onions, sliced(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess water, then cut into 1-inch cubes.

  2. 2

Toss the tofu cubes in cornstarch until evenly coated.

  3. 3

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry tofu until crispy and golden on all sides, then remove and set aside.

In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of cornstarch.

  5. 5

Wipe out the skillet, add remaining oil, and sauté garlic, ginger, and dried chilies for 1 minute until fragrant.

  6. 6

Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet and stir until it thickens into a glossy glaze.

  7. 7

Add the crispy tofu back into the skillet and toss quickly to coat thoroughly.

  8. 8

Garnish with sliced green onions and serve immediately over rice.
