Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 3 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Ice water
  • 3 large Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 large Egg (for wash)(optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Apricot preserves(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

In a food processor or bowl, pulse flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, and butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

Add ice water one tablespoon at a time until the dough just holds together. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic, and chill for 30 minutes.

  3. 3

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  4. 4

Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss them with lemon juice, cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon of sugar.

  5. 5

Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a 12-inch circle and transfer to the baking sheet.

  6. 6

Arrange apple slices in the center, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold the edges of the dough over the apples, pleating as you go.

  7. 7

Brush the crust with beaten egg and sprinkle the remaining sugar over the crust and apples.

  8. 8

Bake for 40-45 minutes until the crust is golden brown and apples are tender.

  9. 9

Optional: Melt apricot preserves and brush over the warm apples for a glossy finish.
