Ingredients

Servings:8
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 unit Large egg
  • 1/2 cup Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 can Cooking oil spray(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt.

  3. 3

Add the chilled butter cubes to the flour mixture and rub them in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

In a separate small bowl, beat the egg with the milk and vanilla extract.

  5. 5

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, kneading gently until a stiff, smooth dough forms.

  6. 6

Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut into small 1/2 inch squares using a knife or pizza cutter.

  7. 7

Place the dough squares on the prepared baking sheets in a single layer and lightly spray with cooking oil for extra crunch.

  8. 8

Bake for 20-25 minutes, tossing them halfway through, until they are golden brown and firm to the touch.

  9. 9

Allow the bites to cool completely on the tray to reach maximum crunchiness before serving.
