Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cups Cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Ice water
  • 3 large Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 0.25 cups Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 large Egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tsp water)(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

In a food processor or bowl, pulse flour and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

Add ice water one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough just comes together. Form into a disk, wrap in plastic, and chill for 30 minutes.

  3. 3

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples.

  4. 4

Toss apple slices with brown sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl.

  5. 5

On a floured surface, roll the dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  6. 6

Arrange apples in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border.

  7. 7

Fold the edges of the dough over the apples, overlapping as needed. Brush the edges with egg wash and sprinkle with remaining granulated sugar.

  8. 8

Bake for 35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and apples are tender.
