Ingredients

Servings:8
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter, chilled
  • 1 piece Large egg
  • 1/2 cup Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 3 cups Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, and salt.

  2. 2

Cut the chilled butter into small cubes and rub it into the flour mixture using your fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. 3

In a separate small bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and vanilla extract together.

  4. 4

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and knead gently until a smooth, non-sticky dough forms.

  5. 5

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.

  6. 6

Use a pizza cutter or knife to cut the dough into small 1/2 inch squares or strips.

  7. 7

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C) and fry the dough pieces in batches until golden brown and crunchy.

  8. 8

Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels; let cool completely before serving to ensure maximum crunch.
