Ingredients

Servings:24
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup Granulated white sugar
  • 1 piece Large egg
  • 1 piece Egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 cups Dark chocolate chips or chunks
  • 1 teaspoon Flaky sea salt (Maldon)(optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat, swirling until it foams and turns a deep golden brown with a nutty aroma.

  2. 2

Pour the browned butter into a large bowl and let it cool for 10 minutes before whisking in the brown and white sugars.

  3. 3

Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, whisking vigorously until smooth and shiny.

  4. 4

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and kosher salt.

  5. 5

Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients using a spatula until just combined.

  6. 6

Fold in the dark chocolate chunks, then chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

  7. 7

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  8. 8

Bake for 9-11 minutes until edges are golden, then immediately sprinkle with flaky sea salt while warm.
